Israel 2010 Language Barriers

Unlike other areas of Israel where everyone knows multiple languages, not so here in Be'er Sheva. It seems only one in 3 or 4 speak a small amount of English. Between my lack of Hebrew and the panic I feel when forced to recall, the best I do is hold up my fingers for numbers and describe every single thing by color (my best vocabulary list in Hebrew). It made perfect sense to me that describing green lentils as Yarok (green), and signing flat and tiny (Katan for little, slipped my mind), that should be a clue. It is like a game of guessing anyway...

As she (the store clerk) led us over to the green vegetables with confidence, I had to admit my Hebrew would have to increase in vocabulary.
